The Huawei Nova Y60 launched in South Africa on 1 September, and we managed to get our hands on one of these out-of-this-world smartphones.
Details surrounding Huawei’s newest device have been well hidden but with the phone’s release, here’s what we can tell you; the appropriately named Nova is looking like a shining star among budget smartphones in South Africa.
Under the Hood
Despite being marketed as a budget smartphone, the Huawei Nova Y60 is no slouch. It packs in a MediaTek Helio P35 processor with EMUI 11.0.1 (based on Android 10), 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. The storage specs are the perfect fit for your daily needs, comfortably holding enough space for your apps and up to 2 184 pics!
Screen and Body
When it’s time to review those shots to see which one makes the social media cut, you can easily check every detail on the Nova Y60’s 6.6-inch HD+ 1600 x 720-pixel display.
Like all other devices under the Huawei name, the Nova Y60’s exterior does not disappoint.
Available in 2 colours on the South African market – standard black and Crush Green – the Nova Y60 will indeed become your latest device crush based on its stylish looks alone.
Unlike many new devices out now which have in-display security access, the Nova Y60 has the preferable side mounted fingerprint scanner which remains the more responsive of the two options. It is also bolstered by the addition of FaceID for added security.
If playing media on your phone without headphones is your vibe, the Nova Y60 has got you covered. It boasts Histen 6.1 Audio Technology and Panoramic 3D audio enhancement for great projected playback.
Camera
One thing’s for certain when it comes to Huawei – the camera will be magnificent no matter the range or your budget. The Nova Y60 is no different. While it is understandably less capable than say the higher end P40 or the P40 Lite, the Nova Y60’s Triple AI Camera can definitely hold its own.
The rear camera holds a 13 MP Main Camera with f/1.8 aperture, a 5 MP Ultra-Wide-Angle Camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 2 MP Depth Camera with f/2.4 aperture.
The selfie camera is an equally impressive 8 MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture.
The fairly low apertures are what helps the Nova Y60’s cameras really shine, dealing with low light conditions nicely and giving you crisp, clear snapshots that are truly “lit” no matter the shooting environment.
Battery
The Nova Y60 has a 5000mAh battery, meaning it’s quick to charge and is a powerful budget option that can go on for two days after just one charge with medium usage. An impressive feat for what’s considered a budget option!
Verdict
If affordability, style and a multitasking whizz is what you’re after, look no further than the Nova Y60, Huawei’s newest rising star.
