Huawei P Smart 2021 Review

Moe from Mondo / 03-03-2021 / Reviews

Despite the odds, Huawei has navigated their Google-less smartphone offering with great success. For some users, this was a make or break factor. However, the Chinese manufacturer is making huge strides to deliver exceptional phones with more apps, games and services through their own AppGallery as time goes on. The latest mid-tier offering for 2021 is the Huawei P Smart, which packs impressive hardware for its price point - pretty much what we’ve come to expect from Huawei over the years.

Under the Hood

The device is powered by the Kirin 710F Octa-Core processor along with 4GB of RAM. As a result, you can expect speedy performance with daily use. The CPU is more than sufficient for multitasking and light gaming, so you shouldn’t experience any lag while using multiple apps at once.

In terms of memory, you can expect a 128GB onboard storage capacity and since the SIM tray is universal, you have the option of using it as a Dual-SIM phone or add more memory through a 256GB microSD card.

Huawei paired the device with its EMUI 10.1 OS which is based on Android 10.

Screen and Body

The Huawei P Smart may be a mid-range phone, but its appearance says otherwise. Inspired by the beauty of light and shadow, this device is available in Breathing Crystal and Midnight Black, two stunning options that are sure to turn heads. The 3D curved edges at the back allow you to easily grip the device, which fits snuggly in the hand.

The screen stands out in this device with a 6.3-inch OLED producing 16.7 million colours, making it a joy to sit back and enjoy videos and photos despite the non-intrusive teardrop camera notch.

Three Rear Cameras

As expected, Huawei couldn’t drop the ball with the cameras, so they’ve included three rear lenses. The showstopper here is the 48MP lens that you will use for the majority of pictures. The lens captures some intricate images, which the AI pushes further. The 8MP ultra-wide lens is decent offering you a 120-degree angle to capture more in an image. The 2MP depth camera is suitable for up-close photography for those finer details.

Of course, no smartphone is complete without its selfie camera. The Huawei P Smart 2021 has a front-facing 8MP camera for you to show off your best side on social media.

Battery

The device is paired with a 4,000mAh battery which is sufficient for the average user. If you’re on social media, playing games and watching videos, one charge should last you a complete day.

Other Features

Something rare in the smartphone world is the inclusion of a headphone jack but Huawei has added this to the package. The phone has an advanced In-Display fingerprint sensor with improved unlock speeds. It’s a seamless transition when you’re unlocking the device or confirming payment.

Verdict

The Huawei P Smart 2021 is a fantastic bud get phone with a premium OLED display. Its power, battery life and camera setup make it a real competitor in the market, even when going up against more expensive phones that don’t come close what this fantastic device offers.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the tech giant’s best foldable yet

Samsung’s flagship foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, was unveiled last year and since its launch, it has been hailed as the tech giant’s best foldable yet.It boasts upgraded technology that is both practical and durable. It also hits the market at a lower price than its predecessor.Display and User ExperienceThe Flip 3 offers some of the best displays on the market today with a 6.7-inch FHD+ dynamic AMOLED 2X. It’s eye-catching with vivid, bright colours that look great both fully opened, and half folded. Although the screen is slightly narrow and tall, it offers a cinematic experience with plenty of space for content, whether it’s a movie, lengthy social media feed or a game. With a 120Hz refresh rate, you can expect a smooth user experience no matter how many apps you’re running at once.On the back, it has a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED cover display for notifications, shortcuts and music playback controls. A nice design touch is that the cover display also serves as a front camera when the phone is "unflipped" to snap pictures and record videos.Strength and DurabilityThe Flip 3 is serious about durability. This version is 80% stronger than its predecessor owing to the Gorilla Glass Victus. The new film covers the outer display and together with Armor Aluminum material on the phone’s frame, provides superior scratch resistance.Another big addition this year is the IPX8 water-resistance rating, which makes the phone more practical for everyday use as it effortlessly shrugs off rain and can handle any accidental splashes of water.PerformanceThe Z Flip 3 is powered by Qualcomm’s best mobile processor, the Snapdragon 888 CPU, and it runs on Android 11 with Samsung’s One UI. What’s more, Samsung has committed to providing Android version updates for the next three years – this should cover the upcoming Android 12 and versions 13 and 14.For gamers, you can expect quick load times even when playing intensive games such as Genhin Impact and Asphalt 9. Its speed and efficiency make it easy to navigate and move through many apps at once without the phone slowing you down. Not only is it fast, but it is also 5G enabled to deliver the best internet speeds possible with ultra-low latency and more reliability.Camera CapabilitiesIf you’re looking for a phone with good overall camera capabilities, the Flip 3 is it!The unique design makes it fun to snap selfies as you can use the 12MP dual rear cameras while the phone is folded. You will be able to watch the display and frame your shot to get the perfect snap, or you can simply "unflip" the phone and take a selfie the good old-fashioned way using the device’s front camera. The dual rear cameras are perfect for content creators or anyone who shares a lot of images on social media. Vloggers, for example, will find the Director’s View mode useful as it switches between multiple cameras while you record a video. Portrait Mode for video is another cool feature, allowing you to focus on yourself or your subject while creatively blurring the background.Equally impressive the night mode function which delivers bright images even in the darkest conditions, and each shot takes only about 2-3 seconds to process!VerdictIf you’re in the market for a clamshell-style folding phone, it doesn’t get better than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 when considering its price point, features and durability.
