Huawei released the anticipated P30 flagship range of phones in Paris in March 2019 surrounded by much fanfare, and this latest generation of devices from the Chinese manufacturer proves to be worthy of the hype.
The P series range consists of the P30 Lite, P30 and P30 Pro, each offering plenty of great features that build upon the last generation P20 range while offering enough new bells and whistles to delight new and old users alike.
The P30 and P30 Pro feature OLED displays, while the P20 Lite is fitted with an IPS LCD screen. The P30 is equipped with a massive 6.47-inch display, while the P30 and P30 Lite are kitted out with 6.1-inch screens. The dewdrop notch on the entire range has been shrunken down even further as part of an overall redesign that minimizes the bezels and maximises the screen to give the impression of a near-frameless display, and it looks absolutely stunning.
The P30 range also benefits from a choice of stylish new paint jobs, so in addition to the standard black, you have the option of the nature-inspired Amber Sunrise, Breathing Crystal or Aurora.
Huawei is known for the amazing cameras on their devices, thanks to their partnership with Leica. The P30 Pro is equipped with a new Leica Quad Camera system, which includes a 40MP main camera with Huawei SuperSpectrum Sensor, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera, an 8MP telephoto camera and a Time-of-Flight (TOF) 3D Camera on the rear. This setup allows a first-of-its-kind 10x hybrid magnification and 50x digital zoom.
The front of the device boasts a 32MP camera that takes selfies to a whole new level. The younger siblings, P30 and P30 Lite, both offer a triple camera setup on the rear with 32MP shooters on the front, although the specs differ from model to model.
Overall, Huawei firmly maintains their place in the smartphone arena with the P30 series, especially for consumers who want near pro-level cameras on a mobile device. Along with their competitive pricing and impressive under-the-hood engineering, rival manufacturers have a real contender on their hands.
