Team Mondo, proudly sponsored by HP Store, participated in the 2019 ABSA Cape Epic on behalfof charitable organisation Qhubeka, raising a total of R188 000!
The ABSA Cape Epic is a gruelling annual mountain bike race held in the Western Cape that attracts competitors from every corner of the globe. It is the most televised mountain bike race of all time with over 30 000 hours of global TV coverage in Europe, America, Asia, the Middle East and the African continent.
This year’s 8-day race will see competitors cycle a distance of 624 km with 16.6 km of unforgiving uphill terrain.
Mondo and parent company Rewardsco leaped at the chance to represent Qhubeka in the 2019 ABSA Cape Epic. Qhubeka, meaning “to move forward”, is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 2005. Through their fundraising efforts, Qhubeka provides bicycles to underprivileged South African men, women and children from disadvantaged communities, and to date, has donated over 90 000 bicycles.
These bicycles provide people with a mode of transport that is cheap and efficient to travel to work and school, while helping them to do more than is possible on foot, such as fetching supplies, visiting clinics for medical assistance and even providing a means of transport during disasters and accidents to reach places inaccessible to other vehicles.
Team Mondo’s quest was to raise funds to help Qhubeka purchase and distribute as many bicycles as possible into the hands of the underprivileged people of South Africa. Through our sponsorship partners and in-house VR Epic Experience we are proud to say that we raised R188 000, all of which will go to Qhubeka, because when it comes to helping those in need, there’s no distance too great or mountain too high.
Together, we believe in the goal of helping South Africa “to move forward”, because when it comes to helping those in need, there’s no distance too great or mountain too high.
