Samsung’s Galaxy epic new S22 flagship range has finally launched in South Africa. If you’re waiting to get your hands on the Galaxy S22, the good news is that this affordable, yet premium smartphone doesn’t disappoint!
Dynamic Display
This smartphone delivers incredible colours that are bold and bright. It boasts a 6.1-inch display, FHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch input rate and a vivid AMOLED panel. Reaching 1 300-nit peak brightness, it has some pretty cool features such as Samsung’s Vision Booster, which automatically adjusts the brightness and colour of the screen while preserving detail and increasing your viewing quality, regardless of the lighting conditions. And if a compact smartphone is what you’re after, the S22 is the ideal size fitting comfortably in one hand.
Crank up the Camera Specs
The phone’s triple-lens camera setup comes with some impressive improvements to the hardware. For starters, the wide-angle lens is now 50MP – a big jump from the S21’s 12MP. The telephoto lens now has better a 3x optical zoom, up from the 1.1x in the previous version. The sensor also received a major upgrade with a 23% boost in size, allowing for more light to enter, especially in low light or no light conditions. The result is bold, bright, detailed and vibrant pictures no matter the lighting conditions.
The video capabilities also pack a punch with 8K video recording at 24 frames per second and 4K video at 60 FPS. Standout features include Samsung’s Video Digital Image Stabilisation and Auto Framing capabilities that detect and track up to 10 people at a time!
Battery That Goes the Distance
At first glance, a 3 700mAh battery capacity may seem modest. The good news is it goes a long way in the Galaxy S22 thanks to Samsung’s innovative battery optimisation measures that adapt to how you use your phone. Although it’s 300mAh smaller than its predecessor, it can last way beyond 24 hours, even if you’re gaming or video streaming. The S22 reaches charging speeds of 25W using a power adapter for the model and charges wirelessly at 4.5W.
Software Support
The flagship is integrated with Samsung's One UI 4.1 interface for Android 12 and has added customisation and privacy features. The process of monitoring which apps are requesting permissions and managing those permissions has become much more streamlined. But the biggest upgrade is that Samsung is now offering increased software support and the Galaxy S22 is kicking this off. It now promises four years of Android software updates and additional five years of security support.
Processors to Unlock the Incredible
The new launch sees Samsung continue its two-chipset policy. Those living in the US or Asia get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, while rest of the world gets Samsung's own Exynos 2200. Both are premium 4nm processors that enable advanced capabilities, including video editing, streaming, vlogging, AI tasks and gaming. Both chips are incredibly fast, 5G enabled and paired with 8GB RAM with a choice of 128GB or 256GB storage options. The S22 is powerful and makes for a snappy operating system that runs and switches through apps smoothly.
